In 2002, the United States Air Force (USAF) operated a massive air mobility effort to support operations in Central Asia, heavily reliant on a Tanker Transport Support system. Following the 9/11 attacks in late 2001, the Air Force deployed an Expeditionary Package of tanker and transport aircraft, which included KC-135 Stratotankers, KC-10 Extenders, and C-5 Galaxy transporters, to rapidly build up combat power and provide long-range refueling.
